Lovingly Created in His Image

Have you ever struggled with thoughts that you just don’t quite measure up? I was discussing this
struggle with a friend a while ago and she said that she believed that this is an issue of pride. Now, I
have been pondering on that. I have looked up the definition of pride in the past as God had revealed to
me that my avoidance of asking for help was pride. Therefore, I have spent a great deal of time studying
and meditating on scripture that speaks about pride.

The dictionary defines pride as a feeling of deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one’s own
achievements; a high or inordinate opinion of one’s own dignity, importance, merit, or superiority,
whether as cherished in the mind or as displayed in bearing, conduct, etc.

Whether feeling “less than” or “not measuring up” is indicative of pride is probably debatable. However,
what I do know is that this feeling does not come from God, nor does it please Him. It is a stronghold
that needs to be addressed so that we can be set free from its bondage. Our Heavenly Father desires
for us to be confident in who we are in Him, who He says we are.

I believe that this feeling can be associated with trauma or something that was spoken over us at young
age or possibly even as an adult. Regardless of where it began, it is a lie from the enemy and the only
way to demolish a lie is with the truth. The truth of God’s Word is our weapon!

In order to know who we truly are, we must go to the Word of God, read it, study it, meditate on it and
even recite it aloud until we believe it and walk in it. To overcome our insecurities, which is defined as,
“uncertainty or anxiety about oneself or a lack of confidence,” we need the living and active word of
God, our weapon of warfare to destroy the lies we have chosen to believe about ourselves over the
years.

The world will give us endless options to overcome our anxieties and insecurities, ways to build our
confidence and self-esteem. The world says things like, “know your worth and then add tax.” Our value
can only be found in the One who created us uniquely and wonderfully in His image and then He said
that it was very good.

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Genesis 1:27-28

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was
morning—the sixth day. Genesis 1:31

He created us with a plan and a purpose before we were even born. We were created by the God of the
universe who loves us enough to send His one and only Son to die for our sins and be raised to life,
giving us new life in Him! This new life was to be as Jesus declared “life to the full” (John 10:10). We
cannot live a full, abundant life while thinking that we do not measure up. The question is to whom are we trying to measure up? Or what standard are we measuring ourselves against? Likely, it is the world’s
not our Heavenly Father’s. The Lord makes no mistakes. Each and every one of us was lovingly formed
by the hand of God.

For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
  your works are wonderful,
  I know that full well.

We are to live knowing that we are enough in Christ. Our Heavenly Father says we are chosen, set apart,
forgiven, redeemed, His treasured possession and loved more than we can possibly fathom.
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may
declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9
The Lord has a plan and a purpose for us to carry out in the earth. We cannot accomplish all that he has
for us if we are not walking fully, boldly and confidently as an immeasurably loved, new creation in
Christ Jesus. Nothing anyone has ever said about us will ever invalidate what our Heavenly Father says
about us. His Word is the truth. That means it is the truth about us. Let us believe who God says we are
and walk courageously in it! To God be the Glory!

Father God, thank you for creating us in Your Image, fearfully and wonderfully. Help us to see who we
are through your eyes. Release us from the bondage of what we have believed about ourselves or
others have said about us that does not align with Your Word. Help us to believe you over everyone else
including ourselves. Lord, you are Great and so kind, loving and merciful. Thank You for your Word that
gives us the truth that shuts down every lie of the enemy. Your word always guides us, encourages and
strengthens us to live boldly and courageously as we trust in you. Father, helps us to not just read and
study your word to gain knowledge but to be transformed so that we can live the abundant life Christ
died and was raised to life to give us. I love you with all that I am and give you all the praise and the
Glory! In Jesus’ Precious Name, Amen and Amen!
